The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced a new showcase entitled "Neighboring Scenes" featuring Latin American Cinema.

The new festival will be co-presented by Cinema Tropical, which is run by Carlos Gutierrez.

"We're thrilled to be partnering with our colleagues at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. 2015 has been another stellar for Latin American cinema and we're very happy to screen some of the most recent outstanding productions from the region to New York audiences," Gutierrez told Latin Post. 

The new program will show a number of Latin American films from around the world and will also showcase the current themes of Latin American cinema.

The series will open with Benjamín Naishtat's "El Movimiento," which is a stark black-and-white snapshot of anarchy in 19th-century Argentina. The film is the followup to Naishtat's last film "History of Fear," which was his debut feature.

The series will also showcase a number of acclaimed festival films such as "Land of Shade" by Cesar Augusto Acevedo, which won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film festival and comes from Colombia.

Chile's Oscar submission "The Club" from Pablo Larrain will also be showcased. "The Club" won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and was picked up by Music Box for release in 2016.

Guatemala's Oscar submission "Ixcanul" will also screen. The film is currently one of the favorites to get nominated and was picked up by Kino Lorber for US distribution.

The series will also present the U.S. premiere of Arturo Ripstein's "Bleak Street," which has drawn comparison's to Luis Buñuel's Mexican period.

Many countries will be represented including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico. The event will be a great way to showcase the diversity in filmmaking and the thriving industry in Latin America. It will also give audiences a chance to meet the filmmakers who will be present for Q&A sessions after screenings.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is one of the most recognized organizations that also hosts the New York Film Festival among other festivals in the area.

"Neighboring Scenes" will take place from Jan. 7-10, 2016.
