Roberto Escobar, the brother of drug lord Pablo Escobar, released the Escobar Fold 1 foldable smartphone.

It's been a while since we've heard from the Escobar's in Colombia. It must not be easy living in the country with the family name because people around will surely ask if you are related to Pablo Escobar. If not all, most Colombians knew about Pablo Escobar, the drug lord who was hated by many and loved by some.

Pablo Escobar reshaped the global trafficking of drugs and the geopolitical map of the continent. However, his family lived a perilous life after his death at the hands of the DEA and the Colombian authorities. An example of this is his son, who chose to change his name.

This time, Pablo Escobar's brother is making headlines after he released a super resistant smartphone. It can be assumed that the smartphone is intended as a masculine commodity as most advertisements feature beautiful women in bikinis.

But who is Roberto Escobar?

Roberto Escobar worked as an accountant in the drug cartel of his brother, the Medellin Cartel. This job led him to be jailed and since his release from prison, he trying to venture as a technology entrepreneur. His journey as an entrepreneur has not been easy. He filed a legal battle against Elon Musk due to intellectual property. Later, he also sued Netflix and alleged the streaming site for the use of unauthorized content.

During his interview with a news outlet, he described his role in the Medellin Cartel, "My role was overseeing the books, managing the business and making the illegitimate money legit. On my advice, Pablo began investing in real estate, buying land and building and investing in construction."

What are the specs of Escobar fold 1?

Digital Trends said that the phone is very similar to Samsung. They said, "The Escobar Fold 1 comes running Android 9.0 and has an Octa-Core 2.8Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 CPU, dual cameras at 16 and 20 megapixels, and a 7.8-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen when folded. The phone is capable of holding two SIM cards, and ships unlocked, so it can be used on your carrier of choice." However, according to Digital Trends, the phone is not that impressive.

On the other hand, in a report from Mitu, Escobar told Digital Trends, "My phone cannot break, because I did not have to make a glass screen like Samsung. Our screen is made of a special type of plastic, and we still have the best resolution. Our special plastic is very difficult to break."

How much is the smartphone?

According to Roberto Escobar that the smartphone will be offered $349 and he also claims that he will beat Apple. Escobar said: "I have told many people that I would beat Apple and I will. I cut the networks and retailers, to sell directly to customers phones that can fold for only $349, phones like the ones in stores cost thousands of dollars by Samsung and others. This is my goal, to beat Apple, and by doing it my way like I always have."

It is safe to say that weeks from now there will be videos comparing Escobar Fold 1 to other smartphones like Apple and Samsung.
