A Brazilian man's assassination attempt at the life of Argentina's Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has certainly rocked the entire South American continent. 

Argentinian police have now detained the Brazilian suspect's romantic partner as investigators try to determine if the attacker was part of a wider plot.

Fernando Andre Sabag Montiel, the 35-year-old Brazilian assassin, was arrested last Thursday night, shortly after he tried to kill De Kirchner.

Montiel emerged from the crowd outside the vice president's home and tried to shoot De Kirchner, pointing his Bersa 380 pistol in her face. Luckily, the gun jammed as he aimed at her.

His partner, 23-year-old Brenda Uliarte, was arrested on Sunday night at a Buenos Aires train station. Police have not yet charged her as they tried to determine if she had anything to do with her partner's plot to kill the former president, who is now serving as the vice president of Argentina.

Officials also seized Montiel's cellphone after his arrest, though its data had already been wiped clean. They are trying to determine how and why this happened.

As for his girlfriend, a judicial source told the Associated Press that she had been in the area where the attack took place, mixed in with De Kirchner's many sympathizers who showed support for the vice president as she faces various corruption charges.

Brazilian Assassin Lived in Argentina for Over 2 Decades, Had Nazi-like Tattoos

According to El American, Fernando Andre Sabag Montiel was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on January 13, 1987. However, he moved to Argentina in 1993 and has lived there ever since. 

While he was born in Brazil, his mother was Argentinian, and his father was Chilean. Reports from Argentinian media like Ambito noted that he was associated with Nazi organizations and has sported tattoos with Nazi symbology.

His social media account, now deactivated, showed pictures of him proudly showing off his Nazi tattoos.

Argentinian police and media are scouring the internet for more evidence and information about the Brazilian assassin.

Posts from his now-deleted social media accounts have shown that Fernando Andre Sabag Montiel was already fed up with the Argentine political system. 

He often criticized Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and the right-wing opposition, including De Kirchner's opponent Javier Milei, the main face of Argentina's right-wing elements.

According to the local press, the assassin is actually a local driver working for a transport app. His national ID also showed that he is single and of foreign origin.

It also showed that he has no active taxes and no bank accounts. Police are still investigating if there is a wider plot surrounding the assassination attempt or if he was simply fed up with politics.
