Grand Theft Auto 5 'Franklin' Voice Actor Shawn Fonteno Claims He Stole Ice Cube's Chain
Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto V" has recently swept the world with its mind-blowing action adventure, and GTA 5 has become the fastest-selling video game in history -- it sold $1 billion worth of units within its first three days. The popular game features a character named "Franklin," and the voice behind the character is speaking up about his past violence with Ice Cube.
Before he voiced the gangbanger character in "GTA V," Shawn Fonteno had ties with hip-hop and in fact, he used to rap in Los Angeles, under the emcee nickname "Solo." And Solo was no ordinary rapper; he was involved in a legendary street fight against Ice Cube, and won.
The infamous hip-hop feud goes back to the 1990s. It was during the beef between Cypress Hill and Ice Cube, and the "Grand Theft Auto V" star was on Cypress Hill's side. Solo appears in the documentary "Beef 2" and describes his altercation with his fellow emcee. He allegedly knocked Ice Cube out over a "business feud" and stole his chain when Ice Cube started a fight with him at a traffic light.
"Knocked him down, knock him out," the former rapper says in the documentary. "Woke him back up. Whooped on his ass. Somehow his chain fell in my hand. I don't know how it got in my hand, but, it fell in my hand. Then, all of the sudden, his Rolex start jumping off and coming into my hand. I dunno how that happened."
According to a recent interview, Shawn Fonteno seems like he has buried the past between his former enemy, and does not hold a grudge on his end. "That's my dude, homie. We both hustlers, homie," Fonteno says. "So it is what it is, you know what I'm sayin'? He from South Central, I'm from South Central. That sh*t's over with." Fonteno has definitely moved on. He also wants to work with Ice Cube in the future, "And Cube, holla at yo boy, man. You know what it is. We gonna do some big things."
In addition, the "Grand Theft Auto V" soundtrack includes Ice Cube's 1994 track "You Know How We Do It" from his album "Lethal Injection." In it, he shouts out the voice actor, "Kam and Solo, they got nuts."
