Juan Diego Calle, 35, began his first business, TeRespondo in his garage with his brother. He had no money, but he did have a great deal of technological savvy. Now, the owner of his second business, .CO, he runs his enterprise from the confines of a relaxed Miami office space, with 20 employees under his oversight.

.CO is an internet domain company which offers the '.co' domain extension as a marginally shorter alternative to the more popular '.com.' Started in July of 2010, the .co extension has been registered to users in more than 200 countries, and there are more than 1.5 million .co domain names in use. Starbucks, American Express, Twitter, and Virgin Media are only some of the larger companies that have gotten hip to the '.co' trend. .Co's conception rose from Calle's acquisition of domain names for later sale. When doing this he found that 'co' was usually offered as an abbreviation for company, and thought that it would be a valuable extension option.

Calle was 16-years-old when he relocated from Colombia to the United States. Years later, he sold his first business, TeResponde, a pay-per-click search advertising network that exploded in South America, particularly Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. But, it went bankrupt in the early 2000s, only to be revamped and sold to Yahoo in 2005. Then 27-years-old, he was accepted into Harvard's Owner/President Management Program, and once he graduated he began a venture that would help him contribute to the country that raised him. Being that '.co' is the country code extension for Columbia, he gives 25 percent of the domain company's gross income to Columbia as royalties.

.CO is unique in that it offers each customer a membership to promote and network, as well as find other key business resources.

Pop.co, Calle's latest business venture puts web design in the hands of the everyday web user, offering .CO domain names, DNS (Domain Name System) editors, a web page, a custom email, perks, and benefits for $5 per user per month.

Calle expects that with the growth of .CO and extentions like it, .coms will eventually become antiquated.
