A couple of clever gamers have figured out how to turn the new Xbox One into a dev kit. Microsoft, however, is warning gamers not to tamper with their system.

On Dec. 1, a YouTube user named GameTuts uploaded a video called "Xbox One - How to Turn your Xbox into a Devkit!" which taught Xbox One owners how to do just that. Microsoft, who launched the Xbox One on Nov. 29, has released a statement recommending that Xbox One users do not follow GameTuts' instructions.

"Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults," Microsoft said.

GameTuts also warned YouTube watchers against the dangers of using his video.

"Doing this will allow you to enable your Xbox into turning into a Devkit! However, an Xbox One developer weighed in on the conversation to warn users of turning this feature on, as entering incorrect information in the 'Sandbox ID' field (visible in the picture above) can put your console into a 'boot loop,'" the user said in the video's description.

Directions for turning an Xbox One into a dev kit have also been uploaded onto Reddit by a user named Liam Hing. An Xbox One developer spoke out on the website to warn against the dangers of bricking as well.

"Please don't mess with anything here for the time being, especially the sandbox ID. You risk putting your box into a boot loop," the developer said according to VG247.
