Saul "Canelo" Alvarez revealed on Instagram that Golden Boy Promotions and TV Azteca reached an agreement on broadcast rights for his upcoming fight against James Kirkland.

Alvarez, who will face Kirkland on May 9 at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, reposted a photo on his Instagram account, confirming speculation that TV Azteca earned exclusive rights to broadcast the fight in Mexico.

"#GoldenBoy And TV Azteca sign exclusive agreement to transmit @canelopower fights in Mexico," said Alvarez, who also thanked his fans for showing support through a separate update on Instagram.

Alvarez also added that he is happy to return home as he pointed out that TV Azteca was the network that broadcast his first televised fight. He expressed confidence that the network will do a great job in promoting his fight, citing the network's strong dedication in bringing the sport closer to the people.

"TV Azteca broadcast my first televised national fight against Victor "El Negro" Marquez, and I am happy to return to this prestigious home and have it be the platform that displays my professional career at this stage," Alvarez said in a statement via Tha Boxing Voice. "TV Azteca has stood-out for their dedication to bringing boxing to the masses."

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya was also elated by the deal they reached with TV Azteca, who is considered as one of the powerhouse networks in Mexico in terms of bringing boxing closer to millions of viewers in Mexico. He said the deal will benefit all parties, especially Alvarez in his upcoming fights.

"This is a great moment for Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Alvarez and the sport of boxing in general," De La Hoya wrote. "To reach an exclusive agreement in Mexico, with a partner as respected as TV Azteca is an honor for us and together we will provide the best fights for all of Canelo's fans."

TV Azteca was represented by Mexican boxing greats Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez during the announcement along with Julio Cesar "JC" Chavez, Carlos Aguilar, Eduardo Lamazon and Rodolfo Vargas.

Alvarez, the former world light middleweight champion who holds a 44-1-1 record with 31 knockouts, is favored to win in his upcoming fight against Kirkland. Most analysts are convinced that Kirkland could give a run for his money, though, despite being inactive since scoring a knockout win against Glen Tapia in December 2013.
