Kelly Rowland has joined the seemingly ever growing list of big name stars set to make guest appearances during the second season of Fox's smash hit "Empire."

According to E! News, the 34-year-old R&B star and former Destiny Child member is set to play the mother of series costar Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) in flashback. Season 1 of the show also featured several flashback scenes starring Howard and series costar Taraji P. Henson, who plays his feisty ex-wife Cookie Lyon.

Season 2 is set to premiere on Sept. 23 and last month Rowland was spotted hanging out with series screenwriters, triggering speculation that she might be on the verge of joining the cast. Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Marisa Tomei, and Adam Rodriguez have all already been confirmed as Season 2 cast members.

TVLine reports Oscar-winning Tomei is slated to star as Mimi Whiteman, a lesbian venture capitalist who somehow becomes entangled in the Lyon family's music business drama and Rodriguez is reported to be an eventual love interest for Cookie.

Series co-creator Lee Daniels recently took to Instagram to promote Rock's first day on the set, releasing footage of scenes of him wearing an orange prison jump suit alongside the jailed Lucious Lyon

A former "X-Factor judge, Rowland's acting credits include stints on "American Dreams," "The Hughleys," "Single Ladies," "Girlfriends" and "Real Husbands of Hollywood."

Meanwhile, Daniels has also previously hinted that he's also had talks with such Hollywood heavyweights as Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington about potentially joining the show at some point. Daniels previously work with Winfrey in the movie "The Butler," which he directed.

"Empire" also stars Trai Byers as Andre Lyon, Jussie Smollett as Jamal Lyon, Bryshere Y. Gray as Hakeem Lyon, Kaitlin Doubleday as Rhonda Lyon and Grace Gealey as Anika Calhoun.
