In Season 8 Episode 4 of "Castle" on Monday, Castle (Nathan Fillion) wraps himself in his work, as he deals with his shocking split from his wife.

CarterMatt reports Castle and Capt. Beckett will still be forced to work together in this week's case, an investigation into the death of an author, who also happened to be Castle's boyhood idol.

Reports are Castle leaves no stone unturned in seeking to solve the deadly, "stranger than fiction" mystery.

Coming as a complete shock to most fans, an earlier episode this season saw Beckett (Stana Katic) packing her bags and announcing she needed to take a break from her husband to work out some lingering issues.

Even though he has long lectured his wife about the need to face her demons head-on, no one was more surprised by her announcement than Castle himself.

"It's a bold choice," co-showrunner Alexi Hawley told the Hollywood Reporter of show creators' decision to split the pair for any reason or length of time. "What's been rewarding is after the initial flurry of people going after us a little bit on Twitter, there's been a much bigger outflow of people who felt those episodes are really powerful and dynamic and are excited to see what we do next."

Through the long-term plot, the two will continue solving crimes side by side.

In fact, the way Castle sees it, he has the best chance of getting his wife back by tackling his work as aggressively as ever. In his mind, going back to the type of work that first attracted the couple to one another gives him a leg to stand on.

"He finds a way to worm his way into her cases," fellow showrunner Terence Paul Winter said. "What ends up happening is, of course, we get to a place where Castle and Beckett are building theory together, figuring out who's behind whatever the murder of the week is."

"Castle" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
