Android M 6.0 Marshmallow Update Release Date: T-Mobile Details Rollout Devices Including Samsung, HTC, LG, & More
As the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, or Android M, update is already beginning to roll out to Google's own Nexus devices, the next question for Android land is which OEM devices from HTC, Samsung, LG, and others can expect the update and when.
While the second question is still up for debate, and will be for the foreseeable future, T-Mobile has already answered the first with a list detailing which smartphones the company is already working on the Andorid M update for.
Going a step further, T-Mobile is even including an update progress report for each device on its site, with a simple three-step process laid out from Manufacturer Development to T-Mobile Testing to the best stage, "Completed."
Here are the devices listed by the uncarrier as somewhere in that update process.
HTC Flagships
- HTC One M8
- HTC One M9
LG Smartphones
- LG G3
- LG G4
- LG G Stylo
Google's Nexus Devices
- Google Nexus 6
- Google Nexus 5
- Google Nexus 7 (Asus's 2013 tablet)
- Google Nexus 9
Samsung's Galaxy Line
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
- Samsung Galaxy S5
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
- Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
Right now, T-Mobile lists most of these devices as in the first step, "Manufacturer Development." That includes all Samsung devices, all LG devices, and both HTC flagships.
As you may expect, most of the Google Nexus devices are already in the "Completed" stage, though the Google Nexus 6, manufactured by Motorola last year, is still in the T-Mobile testing phase.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow, or Android M for short, will undoubtedly be rolling out to more devices as we head into the late fall and early winter.
While it doesn't reshape the face of Android the way Android 5.0 Lollipop did last year, Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings several important improvements and new features, including the power-saving "Doze" mode, more control over app permissions, and a clearer system of notifications, silent mode, and volume controls.
