Anchored by a stunning performance from Shailene Woodley and a fearless cameo by Kate Winslet, Divergent has proven to be a solid box office get. Suddenly, it seems that audiences all across America are craving for films with strong female leads. And because of the success of the first film, a sequel called Insurgent is coming. Unfortunate title aside, the movie will have absolutely nothing to do with the Middle East.

So while Divergent may not be the next Hunger Games as some outlets have been reporting, it certainly is going to be a lucrative franchise nonetheless. One of the key factors to Divergent's success is that it managed to grab the attention of young adults (YA). Movie industry insiders consider YAs to be very fickle in what they consider hip.

Like Potter and the Hunger Games, Insurgent (and Divergent before it) are all based on mega-successful books. Adapting a story filled with descriptive words and no pictures is a tall order. In Divergent, some things needed to be tweaked in order to chop the source material down into a manageable run time.

Director Neil Burger had a lot to say about adapting the movie to the Los Angeles Times. Burger also talked about working with Veronica Roth, the author of the Divergent trilogy.

"There's a vision in the book, and so I had a lot of questions for Veronica, 'cause as a filmmaker, you're going to see everything. Even when you're writing a book, you can steer the audience to whatever it is you're writing or talking about, whereas a filmmaker, in a film the audience's eye can roam anywhere."

Will Insurgent see more changes? Only time will tell... But as long as Insurgent stays close to Roth's source material, fans will likely be appeased. That being said, what can fans look forward to in the next film? Well, details are scant at the moment, but if you can't stand waiting another year or two for a sequel, then just pick up a copy of Insurgent for yourself.

Until the second movie is released Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer can just watch his studios coffers grow and grow.

"We're off to a great start with strong numbers from all regions of the country, urban, suburban and rural alike. We're confident that 'Divergent' is on its way to becoming another important franchise for us, and we have just greenlit the second film, 'Insurgent.'"

Divergent absolutely killed the competition when it was released two weekends ago. Its three-day cume totaled just under $55 million. However, in its second week of release, its box office has already begun to drop due in large part to Darren Aronofsky's Noah. Yet, no one should run for the hills as the film will still rack up a boatload of money stateside. It has also yet to be released outside of North America.
