'Into the Badlands' Season 1 Episode 4 Spoilers: MK Tries to Master Powers [Watch]
In the upcoming episode of AMC’s new hit “Into the Badlands,” Sunny (Daniel Wu) will help M.K. (Aramis Knight) learn to control his powers in a world of ever present danger.
A teaser for Episode 4 of Season 1, titled “Two Tigers Subdue Dragons,” shows how dangerous just getting out of your vehicle can be.
The scene starts out looking like an average damsel in distress situation, as a blood stained teenager named Tilda (Ally Ioannides) flags down a jeep with her cries for help. But when the two men inside the jeep get out to see what they can do, they are immediately killed by a group of women waiting in the trees.
Wu, the 41-year-old actor who serves as both executive producer and main star on the series, said it was not always clear that he would be a primary player in the program.
Speaking to Collider, Wu said, “I originally thought we would get somebody in their late 20s or early 30s because, physically, it’s a very, very demanding role.”
When that did not pan out, Wu recalled how all eyes turned his way, and he ended up with the lead role.
Although the actor understands that being an Asian star in such a prominent TV role is a great honor, as well as a kind of responsibility, at first, he never even considered the gravity of his achievement.
“I didn’t really think about the impact of what the show is, and being an Asian American male playing a lead role in the show, until much, much later,” he said.
Wu explained how his knowledge of Asian martial arts icon Bruce Lee led him to finally understand the importance of his role.
“It was a great feeling to be able to do this show, knowing the history of Kung Fu, the TV series that Bruce Lee tried to get going, but then was stolen from him because studios were not ready to put someone Chinese in the lead,” he added. "It felt really great to be able to right that wrong."
The next episode of “Into the Badlands” airs Sunday, Dec. 6 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
