Should former super middleweight champion Andre Ward wait for a match against Gennady Golovkin first before going up to the light heavyweight division?

According to unbeaten warrior Floyd Mayweather Jr., Ward must face Golovkin first before he moves up to the 175-pound weight class, Fight Hype reported.

"Andre Ward should not go up to light heavyweight. He can go to light heavyweight when they make Triple G come up to fight him at 168 ... I think that his body is so used to fighting at 168. If that's what he's accustomed to, then that's where he should continue to fight at," Mayweather said.

"The Money" himself stated that he would want to see a Golovkin vs. Ward match. He shares that it is a "disservice to boxing fans around the world" to not see this battle, especially with both of them already taking different roads in their boxing career.

Golovkin's camp announced "Triple G's" goal to unify the entire middleweight division, Boxing Scene noted in July. The World Boxing Association, International Boxing Organization middleweight titleholder just captured the International Boxing Federation crown from Canadian fighter David Lemieux in October in New York, per BoxRec.

"Triple G," who is also the World Boxing Council mandatory challenger, is just waiting for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's go signal if they will fight soon. He is also looking to nab the World Boxing Organization honor next, Boxing Scene noted.

Thus, the Boxing Scene noted that Golovkin may only have time for Ward in 2017.

With his proposal to fight "GGG" rejected, Ward then resorted to another option, which was to fight at a higher division, Fight Hype noted.

Boxing News 24 informs that Ward is looking to challenge the undefeated WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev next year if he defends his crowns against Jean Pascal on Jan. 30 in Montreal, Canada.

However, for Mayweather, Ward is just being pushed to level up to protect "GGG's" unblemished record. Ward should only go up a weight class if the money involved is going to be "ridiculous" or huge.

It Remains Golovkin's Move

Sports commentator Max Kellerman believes the fight is not ready yet as Golovkin perceives it as too risky on his part to collide with a big and great boxer like Ward, Fight Hype reports.

Thus, only Golovkin can actually decide if he is willing to face Ward and make it happen.

If he faces Ward and wins, Boxing Scene says that Mayweather will surely be impressed.

"If he beats Andre Ward, then I'll be impressed -- but until then he's a boxer without a big name," Mayweather said.

Should Golovkin give Ward a chance or should he focus on his middleweight division goal?
