Minecraft is coming to the Nintendo Wii U on Dec. 17. Nintendo announced Monday they will be selling Minecraft for the Wii U in the Nintendo eShop for $29.99.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition will include add-on packs and new content, Polygon reports.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition will be fully playable on the GamePad controller's screen and in split-screen mode on HD TVs. In the split-screen mode, up to four players can play at once, and up to eight players can play at once online.

For add-on packs, Minecraft: Wii U Edition will include Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack 2, Natural Texture Pack, City Texture Pack, Fantasy Texture Pack and Festive Mash-up Pack.

"With so many included add-on content packs, Minecraft: Wii U Edition brings an exciting collection of Minecraft content and experiences to Nintendo fans," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president and COO, said in a prepared statement. "Wii U players will have plenty of reasons to keep coming back to this iconic gaming experience."

Additional add-on packs can be purchased separately to enhance gameplay. There is a long list of these additional add-on packs.

In the future, there will be even more add-on packs for the Wii U version of Minecraft, Nintendo and Minecraft's creator Mojang promised.

Minecraft, the block placing and building game, was purchased by Microsoft for $2.5 billion last year. It has been an extremely popular game for players of all ages and it has a very affordable price, between $19.99 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and $26.95 for the desktop version. Minecraft is also available on iOS and Android mobile devices for $6.99.
