Donald Trump, Ted Cruz Slam Obama on Terrorism
GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump was not impressed with President Barack Obama's address to the nation on Sunday night and apparently believes that the president is part of the country's "tremendous problem" with radical Islamic terrorism.
"Until (Obama) admits that this is a problem, we're never gonna solve the problem," the real-estate tycoon told CBS' "Face the Nation." "But he's only gonna be there, fortunately, a little bit more than a year. Because the problem will get solved when he gets the hell out."
Meanwhile, the former "Apprentice" star suggested that political correctness kept leaders from adopting effective action against jihadism and that people across the United States need to learn to quickly respond to red flags.
"I think there can be profiling," Trump admitted. "If they thought there was something wrong with that group and they saw what was happening, and they didn't want to call the police because they didn't want to be profiling, I think that's pretty bad. People are dead. A lot of people are dead right now. So everybody wants to be politically correct, and that's part of the problem that we have with our country," the 69-year-old contended.
Ted Cruz, one of Trump's main rivals in the race for the 2016 Republican nomination, meanwhile, also tackled the issue of radical Islamic terrorism, in his case in a new TV ad that began airing in the crucial first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa on Saturday, the New York Times reported.
If the Texas senator were to move in the White House come 2017, "every Islamic extremist will know: If you wage jihad against us, you're signing your death warrant," Cruz proclaimed in the commercial.
"If I'm elected to serve as commander in chief, we won't cower in the face of evil. America will lead," the candidate added in the first 30-second spot. "We'll rebuild our military. We'll kill the terrorists. And every Islamic extremist will know, if you wage jihad against us, you're signing your death warrant."
