Apple wants iPhone 6s owners to get a little more battery life from the latest smartphone. For the first time, the company has created a battery case.

Apple introduced the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case on Tuesday. The case will give users up to 25 additional hours of talk time, CNet reports.

Third party case makers like Mophie have offered battery cases for years, but this is the first time that Apple is making an official battery case.

The Smart Battery Case is bulky and has a square bulge that will add some thickness to the phone. This makes the phone case look very odd, and it is very obvious there is a battery inside this square.

The case is actually comfortable to hold, having the same rubbery silicone material that Apple uses on other accessories like Smart Covers and cases.

The Smart Battery Case can be charged with a Lightning cable. Most third party cases require the use of a Micro-USB cable. Using an iPad 10w or 12w power brick, the case can be charged at the same time as the iPhone.

The Smart Battery Case is a one piece design that has a Lightning cable stick that docks the iPhone 6s right in once it is slipped onto the phone.

There is a headphone cut out at the bottom of the case that will probably fit Apple's own earbuds, but other headphone cords will not fit through the hole.

There is no on and off switch for the Smart Battery Case. Once the iPhone 6s is docked into the case it will start using the battery from the case. After the case's battery is depleted, the iPhone 6s will go back to its internal battery.

Apple says that the case will provide 18 hours of Internet use on LTE and video playback of up to 20 hours.

The Smart Battery Case is available in two colors, charcoal gray and white and it is selling for $99.00 directly from Apple.
