Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has called for the temporary ban of Muslim immigration into the United States (U.S.).

In a statement on early Monday evening, Trump's campaign said the businessman has called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering" the U.S. According to Trump's plan, Muslims would be barred from the country until U.S. representatives can "figure out what is going on."

"Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension," said Trump in a statement. "Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life."

"If I win the election for President, we are going to Make America Great Again," said Trump.

Almost immediately after Trump announced his proposal, fellow Republican presidential candidates denounced such an idea.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, also, slightly, distanced himself from Trump's plan.

"Well, that is not my policy," Cruz has told reporters.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was perhaps the most outspoken. Also utilizing Twitter, Graham wrote that Trump's rhetoric has gone from "absurd" to "downright dangerous." Graham added that Trump is putting the lives of interpreters, diplomats, troops and American supports at risk due to the "bigoted" comments.
