Sundance 2015 Film Festival: Selena Gomez and Diego Luna Headline Films in Spotlight and Premieres Sidebar
Sundance has announced the premieres and spotlight sidebars of the festival with a number of Latin films and actors among the lineup.
One of the highest profile films is Selena Gomez's "The Fundamentals of Caring" as it will close the festival and will be directed by Rob Burnett. The film also stars Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts and Jennifer Ehle and tells the story of Ben, who becomes a caregiver to earn money after having suffered a tragedy.
Diego Luna will also world-premiere his latest film "Mr. Pig/Mexico." The film stars José María Yazpik, Joel Murray, Angélica Aragón, Gabriela Araujo and Maya Rudolph. It marks the actor's second feature after "Cesar Chavez" and the film tells the story of an aging farmer who abandons his foreclosed farm and journeys to Mexico on a mission to sell his remaining prize hog and reunite with old friends.
Acclaimed Chilean actress Paulina Garcia will be seen in Ira Sachs' "Little Men" and will co-star alongside Greg Kinnear. Jennifer Ehle and Tho Taplitz. The film is Sachs' follow-up to his acclaimed film "Love Is Strange."
In the Spotlight section, Colombia's Oscar selection "Embrace of the Serpent" will make its U.S. premiere. The film had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival where it received rave reviews.
Meanwhile, Ireland's Oscar selection set in Cuba will also premiere. The film entitled "Viva" tells the story of father who struggles with his son's sexuality. The film was recently acquired by Magnolia and is expected to open in 2016.
The section will also have some of the most acclaimed festival films. These include "The Lobster," "Miles Ahead" and "Maggie's Plan." Iceland's Oscar selection "Rams" will also premiere at the festival. The movie won the Un Certain Regard sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 21-31, 2016.
