Citing her moral leadership in a time of world crisis, Time Magazine has named German Chancellor Angela Merkel their "Person of the Year."

Time notes the 61-year-old leader has sprung to action to deal with the immense challenges that her nation, as well as the whole of Europe, currently face.

This year, Merkel stepped in to bail Greece out of its otherwise impossible economic situation, then went on to welcome refugees en masse to her country, and finally deployed troops to fight against the ISIS terrorist organization.

Merkel is the fourth woman to be named Time’s “Person of the Year.”

The title has been shared by a disparate group of world movers that includes Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler and Richard Nixon.

Donald Trump, who was actually on the cover of Time in August, took the news as an opportunity to disparage Merkel’s leadership on Twitter.

The current GOP front-runner for the 2016 presidential election did make the short list, coming in third, right behind Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The BBC reports Merkel's spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said he was sure the German leader would cherish the title.

Merkel has been characteristically positive about her nation’s ability to deal with the current migrant crisis. According to Deutsche Welle, Merkel recently assured the public that the federal government had the situation under control.

Merkel said she was not the first chancellor who has had to face a struggle.
