Rita Wilson Announces She's Cancer-Free
After months of being in a tough place for having breast cancer, Broadway actress and singer Rita Wilson announces that she has finally beaten the illness and is now 100-percent cancer-free. Wilson not only succeeded in her battle with cancer, she also apparently got dressed and went to an event to announce her latest victory.
People reported that Wilson attended The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast presented by Lifetime last Wednesday, where she shared the good news to everyone. "I am cancer free. I'm one hundred percent healthy!" she told the publication.
Wilson, who according to Today was diagnosed with breast cancer back in March and underwent a double mastectomy, is now finally starting a new and healthy life with husband Tom Hanks.
People revealed that the actress and singer had already made plans to go back on tour and be on the road for her music. "I'll start in New York at the Cafe Carlyle for two weeks on [Feb. 23]," she told the news outlet.
"Then I have a couple weeks off, and then I start again at the end of March. I'll go through all the April and part of May. It's going to be hilarious. Me on a tour bus with my band members," Wilson added. According to a previous report from the New York Times, Wilson had to take a month off from her previous Broadway show, Larry David's "Fish in the Dark."
Now, the actress can't seem to hide her joy to go back to work and kick it off with her music. Wilson even reveals that her husband is very supportive of her and will even join her on the road.
"He's already said, 'I am coming on the tour bus!' So I had to get one with a bigger bed. So that was important. He's coming. He's going to be on tour ... He's a roadie," she told People.
Wilson further shares that she wants to encourage people, especially those with cancer, that life continues even with the illness.
"I feel really blessed and very lucky," Wilson told the publication. "Part of the reason for going on tour is that I want to show people that you can have cancer, and you can still be out there doing what you love to do, and it's not a death sentence like it used to be."
The victorious actress and singer is 59 years old.
