Samsung Handset with Interchangeable Camera? Patent Emerges, Plus New Leaks on Galaxy S7 Plus
The Samsung team seems to be looking to satisfy the serious photography lovers. A new patent emerged recently that suggests the major electronics developer is amping up their camera game with interchangeable cameras built into the smartphones.
According to a report from GSM Arena, the new patent from Samsung showed several images that suggest devices that can have different camera features including a dual-xenon flash, optical zoom and interchangeable lenses.
While patent leaks are no guarantee, such camera upgrades is a game-changer especially for the growing photography crowd who might be interested in a mobile phone and camera hybrid.
The cameras of the smartphone circuit continue to improve each year, but as of now there are still no handsets offering ultra-advanced photography options. Since Samsung has an extensive photography department separate from its mobile phones, it's entirely possible the company will be the first to take the step in this direction.
New reports also emerged with news on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus. The new 3D renders were revealed by uSwitch, confirming features including the 6-inch display of the device and the 7.82mm size that makes it comparatively slim for a phablet.
The report also discounted previous reports of a USB Type-C port, which would ideally mean faster transfers and charging. Instead, the Galaxy S7 Plus would be equipped with a regular micro-USB port, although it's not visible in the available renders. Like the Galaxy S6, Samsung has not provided a microSD slot for this handset so users will have to make do with the internal storage and cloud-based services.
Some design tweaks are apparent in the images, such as the physical home button, which is wider and thinner in this new model. The front camera has also been slightly moved closer to the left side of the smartphone, as is with the SIM tray that is now further down.
Other features mentioned in the report include a pressure-sensitive touchscreen and a Qualcomm processor.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is slightly smaller with an around 5.1-inch screen like its predecessor. The new installment of the flagship smartphone will reportedly come with the 4K Ultra HD display technology, offering better and crisper images. Expected to land earlier than the previous flagship models, it will reportedly make its debut in January or February 2016.
A separate report from GSM Arena revealed the upcoming Galaxy S7 will feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with a large sensor. The snapper will supposedly boast excellent performance in low-light situations with the help of dual-PD (dual-photodiode) technology.
