'Batman' Movie News 2015: Will Smith to Join Ben Affleck?
There is ample reason to believe that a new rumor floating around the comic book universe online might indeed be true. That rumor is Will Smith may be joining Ben Affleck in the "Batman" standalone film.
According to Latino Review, who cited unnamed sources, there is a real possibility that this may be happening with an interesting scenario behind it.
Before we get into the details of why, here is a little backstory to how this is coming about. First of all, Will Smith has shown incredible enthusiasm for being a part of the larger DC Cinematic Universe under the Warner Bros umbrella. He has already signed on for multiple appearances as the character Deadshot, which he debuted on the soon to be released "Suicide Squad."
So suffice it to say that Smith is already sailing on the ship of possibilities within this possible team up.
In the Affleck camp, there have also been reports that he wants to direct the "Batman" standalone film. But in regards to him making the film a part of the "Batman" cinematic canon as solo hero films, that is not likely.
The DCCU has already primed its strategy moving forward with their vision of the Universe, and that is to make the films larger than life that will spill over into other film projects, much like Marvel is already doing.
So that brings us to the now. Deadshot has already appeared in comics with Batman, most recently in the "Batman: Arkham Knight" issue this year, which started on issue 23.
If their sources turn out to be true and this does come to fruition, the scenario that will play out on the screen will be something similar to an old western, which LR classified as a "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"-type of film. This means that Deadshot will play a major role in the film and some fans might not even classify it as a standalone "Batman" film, but rather a DC film.
