'Halo 5' Updates: Free REQ Packs Daily Announced, 343 Industries Teases January DLC, Controller Tweaks
It's not like "Halo 5: Guardians" players needed more reasons to play the first-person shooter game every day, but the team behind the best-selling game is giving it to the fans anyway. 343 Industries offers a tantalizing reward to players who sign in daily: free REQ packs.
According to a report from GameSpot, the daily bonus announcement was made during the developer's recent livestream. Up to two REQ packs every day can be earned by the players just by playing the multiplayer modes Arena and Warzone. Winning in either mode gives players their reward, so getting REQ packs -- and advancing in the game -- just became much easier in "Halo 5: Guardians."
The livestream also gave players a peek at what's to come in the January DLC drop. At the end of the nearly 3-hour video, 343 Industries unveiled a brief teaser on the new update that's incoming next month. A separate report from GameSpot revealed that the upcoming content will include new armor skins, among others.
Of course, before the fans begin anticipating the arrival of the January features, there's still this month's DLC, which will be marked by the return of Forge, new REQs and a load of other impressive content as enumerated in a recent report by Latin Post.
343 Industries also recently revealed more tweaks to make gameplay smoother in the next patch, particularly new controller options to customize the player's shooting experience according to his or her style and needs. A new blog post at the official Halo Waypoint website explained the upgraded settings for Look Acceleration, Inner Dead Zone and Outer Dead Zone.
The Look Acceleration refers to the time it takes to reach the maximum look speed and the developer adjusted this speed to make it quicker than past "Halo" games and the multiplayer beta. The default Look Acceleration is 3, but players can set it to 2 for an experience similar to the beta.
The Inner Dead Zone of the controller is the space around the analog stick's center position where movement does not affect input in the game. On the other hand, the Outer Dead Zone is the point of the analog stick where players reach 100 percent.
343 Industries recommend setting both Zones to 0 percent and testing for drifting in the Inner Dead Zone or slow turn in the Outer Dead Zone.
"Note that the default values on these parameters are all identical to what we (and you) have been using previously," the developer said on the blog. "Therefore, you don't need to worry about this update changing anything. If you don't touch them, the game will play identically to how it has."
