Google Maps Update Tells User When Stores Are Busy, Plus Gas Prices
A new update to the Google Maps app will allow users to see when stores are busy, helping them decide the perfect time of the day to go shopping.
The Google Maps iOS app has been updated to provide the best times to go shopping or to grab a cup of coffee, TechCrunch reports.
With the new features for the app, users will know when places like gyms, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores and other retail establishments are busy and should be avoided.
Google started displaying "popular" times of businesses back in July through general searches. When users would search for a business a chart would display in the results showing when it is usually busy. The charts were compiled from data that is anonymously collected from Google Maps users. This feature came to the Android version of Google Maps in September, but not for iOS until now.
Google Maps for iOS is also now displaying gas prices. This was a feature that first came to Android when Google announced that it would allow users to add stops to their routes, like gas stations.
On the Google Maps app for iOS, users will now be able to add a gas station as a stop and before choosing the specific station, they will see the price per gallon of gas.
This November, Google added more information about businesses through its "Local Guides" program. Now, when users edit businesses they can also help improve results by answering questions like "is this place good for kids?" and "is this place noisy?"
Google did not make an official announcement regarding the iOS app update, likely to keep customers focus on the Android operating system.
