'Rocket League' Update: Unlock Seven DIfferent Christmas-Themed Items With New 'Snow Day' Mode
Psyonix has released the latest update for the highly popular soccer-racing game "Rocket League." The new content adds the previously announced hockey mode as well as the game's winter event.
The California video game studio recently took to Twitter to announce the arrival of "Snow Day."
The new mutator mode converts the field into an ice rink and transforms the enormous glowing orb into an equally huge hockey puck. This can be played in a new dedicated multiplayer playlist that replaces the current "Mutator Mashup" playlist.
"Snow Day" brings new unlockable items in the game, but only for a limited time. By playing matches now until Jan. 4, players have the chance to unlock all seven different Christmas-themed items. Players who unlock their desired items can keep them forever. If not, they'll have to wait until December 2016 to take another crack at them, per PlayStation Blog. The full list of freebies is listed below.
- "Xmas" Rocket Trail
- "Blitzen" Topper
- "Christmas Tree" Topper
- "Sad Sapling" Topper
- "Santa" Topper
- "Candy Cane" Antenna
- "Holiday Gift" Antenna
Players don't have to purchase any of the game's prior expansion packs or unlock the aforementioned items to play "Snow Day." Mutators were added in last month's free update which allowed elements of the game to be modified.
December seems to be a busy month for Psyonix as "Snow Day" is the third "Rocket League" DLC to be released in a span of three weeks. The last one was a paid expansion pack known as "Chaos Run." It added items based on the "Mad Max" films, as seen in this video uploaded on the official "Rocket League" YouTube channel. In-game cosmetics included in the $4 Chaos Run DLC are as follows:
- Two New Battle-Cars, Ripper and Grog
- 12 New Decals (six for each new Battle-Car)
- Two New Paint Types (Camo and Sun-Damaged)
- Two New Wheels (Ripper and Grog)
- Two New Rocket Trails (Sandstorm, Nuts and Bolts)
- Three New Toppers (Boombox, Cow Skull, Mohawk)
- Three New Antennas (Bomb Pole, Radioactive, Retro Ball - Wasteland)
- Five New Trophies
"Chaos Run" also introduced a new arena called "Wasteland." It's inspired from the stadium of the same name from "Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars."
Meanwhile, Psyonix revealed that it plans to launch "Rocket League" on the Xbox One. However, that version won't feature support for cross-platform multiplayer mode, unlike the PlayStation 4 and PC versions, GameSpot reported.
The announcement was made earlier this month at The Game Awards in Los Angeles, California. The Xbox One version is said to release in February 2016, towing new "Gears of War" and "Halo" themed cars.
