"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." showrunners tell what to expect from Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons after the winter finale episode for Season 3 titled "Maveth."

Fans who watched the 10th episode of the series knew that the lives of Coulson (Clark Gregg), Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) will never be the same again after their latest challenges.

Coulson decided to kill Ward (Brett Dalton) using his robotic arm and Fitz witnessed it while they were on the blue planet Maveth, Comic Book noted.

Show creator Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly that even though Coulson and Fitz successfully returned home to Earth, it felt like an empty victory on their part.

"I don't think that Fitz had as much of a choice that Coulson did, but he's certainly not happy about it," Whedon said.

Whedon noted that for Simmons, although her beloved lab partner and best friend Fitz came back from the other dimension, she did not feel triumphant. With Fitz returning without Will, whom Simmons developed some feelings for, she already knew that he was dead.

On Coulson, the bigger moral burden lies. Executive producer Jeff Bell told The Hollywood Reporter that it will be hard for Coulson dealing with what he did.

"Where Coulson is now is a much darker place, having lost someone who clearly meant the world to him in a way he didn't know he could feel again. The fact that Ward took Rosalind away from him enraged him in such a way that he compromised his character...Coulson doesn't feel great about that. That's going to be something he'll have to figure out and come to terms with in the back half of the season," Bell said.

However, Bell also shared that Simmons may also blame herself for relying on Dr. Andre Garner (Blair Underwood), who transforms into the Inhuman Lash and kills other Inhumans. However, the show executive noted that it has always been Simmons' nature to blame her to be the root of whatever problem even though she may or may not be really guilty to begin with.

Stiil, she will really ponder on that latest act, especially because it was a means to free herself from HYDRA.

However, while they dwell on their personal issues, the threat of the new Ward, the human body inhabited by the powerful Inhuman in Maveth, is coming their way. Bell said that "we should be very, very afraid" that it is already in the same world the humans are.
