Samsung Galaxy Gear Android Smart Watch Lineup 2014: Gear 2 and Neo to Come With Tizen OS and Color Straps
A few months after Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear Android-based smartwatch, it has announced that there will be more smartwatches released on the market soon. Just two days before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung unveiled the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. These are new smartwatch models that more or less look like the original Galaxy Gear, but are different in several ways.
The two new models are not Android-based. Instead, they run on Samsung's Tizen OS. The price is also different with the Gear 2 Neo being the more affordable version. In terms of specs, these two new models are quite similar. However, the Gear 2 Neo does not have a camera. On the other hand, the Gear 2 model has a 2-megapixel camera with the ability to record HD videos. In terms of size, both are 1.64 inches. They also come with an AMOLED display and 320 x 320 resolution. They have 1.0GHz dual-core processors, 4GB storage, 512 MB RAM and a 300 mAh battery.
These watches also provide different fitness and health-related features. These include a heart rate sensor, sleep and stress measurements, pedometer, and many others. There are also exercise-related special modes including running, walking, and cycling. There is also support for calls, notifications and some other apps. Even if these new watches will run in Tizen, they will still be compatible with the smartphones released by Samsung. These devices will also provide a music player packed with Bluetooth headset and speaker support.
For the straps, each device is available in different colors. These include Charcoal Black and Wild Orange. These colors are available for both models. Gold Brown is also available for Gear 2 while Mocha Grey is available for Gear 2 Neo. In April, these new smartwatches will be released around the world. However, as of now, Samsung is still mum in regards to the launch details and specific prices for each of the models.
