Russell Wilson and Cam Newton are two of the best young quarterbacks in the game today. Both are mobile, both have been improving with their pocket passing, and both quarterbacks have guided their team to winning records this season. We may even see them face off again in the playoffs.

But who would you take?

Making the case for Newton

Newton has been the MVP favorite for the majority of the season for a reason. The Carolina Panthers are a perfect 13-0, and Newton has only thrown one interception in his last five games. Newton has more touchdown passes than Wilson as well as six more rushing touchdowns. Let' also not forget that Newton did beat Wilson's Seattle Seahawks at Century Link Field back in Week 6.

It's really impressive to watch Newton put up career highs and play this good considering Kelvin Benjamin is out for the year. While many will argue Newton benefits from having an elite defense behind him, we must take into account that Wilson has had the best defense in the league the last two years. As good as Wilson has been this year, his team has lost five games. Newton's offense ranks first in the NFL in points scored.

Aside from being a lot bigger and having more touchdowns, Newton has also been a little more clutch this season. Newton has orchestrated three game-winning drives (one against the Seahawks) when the Panthers needed him most. Newton has also played better against tougher competition this year. His three touchdown performance against the Green Bay Packers certainty turned some heads when most NFL experts picked the Packers.

Making the case for Wilson

Newton has been great this year, but let's not sleep on Wilson's fantastic season. For the third time in his four year career, Wilson has eclipsed the 100 passer rating as he leads the league at 110. Newton's passer rating is 96.6. Wilsons' career passer rating is 10 points higher than Newton. And, yes, Newton does not have Benjamin to throw to, but the Wilson isn't exactly throwing to elite wide receivers either. Jimmy Graham was lost for the season.

Newton may have two more touchdowns, but Wilson has thrown three less interceptions giving him the better touchdown to interception ratio. On top of that Wilson has had to deal with an inferior offensive line as he has been sacked 14 more times than Newton has. Newton did get the better of Wilson back in Week 6, but that wasn't the case last year as Wilson was victorious over the Panthers in the playoffs. In that game Newton threw a pick-6 to Kam Chancellor to seal the deal.

Speaking of playoffs, that's where this debate really favors one over the other. Wilson already has six playoff wins compared to Newton's one. Newton's lone playoff win came against the Arizona Cardinals when they were playing a third string quarterback.
