PS Plus Free Games List for January 2016 Rumors, Requests, Buzz, & Guesses in PS Plus Community
Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers get a chance to download a few games for each PlayStation platform for free. And every month, PS Plus members hem and haw over which games might be coming next, along with expressing which games they wish would be released for free by Sony.
Now that December is half over and the free games for this month have been downloaded and played, or just ignored, it's that time again: It's time for a special new years installment of the guessing game for the upcoming list of PS Plus January 2016 free games.
Just in time for the holiday season, and right after the PlayStation 4's second anniversary, December 2015 brought a pretty decent lineup of PS Plus free games -- including Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon for the PS3, along with Gauntlet: Slayer Edition and critics' favorite, the first chapter of King's Quest: A Knight to Remember for the PlayStation 4.
Will January 2016 bring even bigger and better titles to PS3 and PS4? That certainly seems to be the hope over at the PlayStation U.S. community forums, where Watch Dogs was mentioned the most for PS4.
For PlayStation 3, Batman: Arkham Origins or Dark Souls 2 were seen by the community as pretty good guesses. Borderlands and Borderlands 2 both came up as possibilities for either PS3 or PS Vita as well. Some variety of RPG from Telltale Games came up as a possibility, too.
Of course there were the usual gripes from PS Plus members about how every game in the next month will probably be an unknown "indie" title that no one cares about.
But as Latin Post previously noted, looking at PlayStation's track record from 2015, on average, should quiet the cynics. Over the year, Sony gave out over a thousand dollars worth of free games, and the average retail price of each free game was nearly $15 a pop (the average rating for a game was over 75 on Metacritic).
So sure, not every title each month will be a AAA classic, but it does happen, and not too infrequently. It'd be a great way to start the new year, so let's hope that PlayStation is in a festive mood, come the last Wednesday of this year.
