UFC News & Notes: Conor McGregor Wants Nate Diaz, Rafael dos Anjos to Beg Him
UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor was called out by three different fighters in last Saturday's UFC on FOX 17. McGregor quickly responded to Charles Oliveira, Nate Diaz and lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos via a post on Twitter.
"Line them up on their knees with their hands out. I want them to beg me," McGregor wrote while also including a photo of his newly bought half-a-million dollar Rolls-Royce.
Oliveira was the first fighter of the night to challenge the featherweight champion after his submission win over Myles Jury. He used a guillotine choke and was his eighth win via submission in the UFC to tie Nate Diaz and Frank Mir for most among current fighters, per MMA Fighting.
"Do Bronx" missed weight by four pounds but insisted that he still wants to fight in the 145-pound division. "I respect all the fighters in the UFC and this division. "I'm coming for you, Conor. I'm going to get you," Oliveira said.
Diaz was the next fighter to challenge McGregor after he defeated Michael Johnson via a unanimous decision in his first fight in more than a year. His challenge was very Diaz-like as it was full of profanity and Joe Rogan has to cut him off, as reported by Bleacher Report.
"Conor McGregor, you're taking everything I work for, motherf****r. I'm gonna fight your f*****g ass. You know what the real fight, the real money fight is me," Diaz said.
The lightweight champion's challenge was more calm and respectful after beating Donald Cerrone via TKO in just 66 seconds.
"Hey, Mr McGregor, if you want to come to the lightweight division, this is my division. I'll fight you in Brazil. I'll go to Ireland to fight you there, wherever you want, man. I'm here to stay," dos Anjos said as quoted by The Sun.
According to MMA Junkie, the reason many fighters want a fight with McGregor is because of the guaranteed huge payday that comes along with the pay-per-view buys and live gate, considering that his next fight may very well be at the 80,000-seater Croke Park in Ireland.
McGregor's head coach John Kavanagh revealed in a recent interview with The MMA Hour that their plan is to fight for the lightweight title in April and defend the featherweight belt in July at UFC 200. The No. 1 contender for that title is Frankie Edgar after he beat Chad Mendes at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale last Dec. 11.
