'The Prophet' Star Salma Hayek Wins The Women's International Film & Television Showcase Animation Award 2015
Latinos continue to reign this awards season, as Salma Hayek has been named the recipient of The Women's International Film & Television Showcase Animation Award 2015.
According to the organization's official website, the actress won the award for her role in Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet." The film, which opened during the summer, had little exposure but was hailed by critics. It is currently nominated at the Annie Awards and Satellite Awards. The film also made the shortlist for the Academy Awards, where it could be nominated come January.
"The Prophet" was one of Hayek's passion projects, which she produced and worked on for many years. As a result, she will be one of the 23 honorees at this year's TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards.
The film premiered at the Jerusalem Film Festival. It tells the story of an exiled artist and poet Mustafa, who embarks on a journey home with his housekeeper and her daughter. On their journey, they discover new adventures and learn to evade authorities who think Mustafa's beliefs will create chaos and rebellion. The film was voiced by Hayek, Liam Neeson, John Krasinski, Quvenzhané Wallis, Frank Langella and Alfred Molina.
Hayek is one of the most established actresses of her generation. She has starred in numerous films, including "Desperado," "Puss in Boots" and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." All three films also starred her frequent collaborator Antonio Banderas.
Additionally, she was nominated for the Academy Award for her work on "Frida." She also obtained a Screen Actors Guild nomination, as well as a Golden Globe nomination. Hayek is slated to next be seen in "Tale of Tales," "Septembers of Shiraz," "Sausage Party" and "Drunk Parents."
TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards 2015 selected winners based on the theme of environment. Other winners, including Romola Garai, will also be honored at this year's ceremony.
