Eva Longoria's 'Telenovela,' America Ferrera's 'Superstore' Get Rescheduled
NBC's latest Latino shows are getting new episodes in time for the Christmas holiday.
In a push to get audiences excited for the two new series, NBC has scheduled new-to-broadcast episodes of "Superstore" and "Telenovela" for 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 28. These episodes will air a week before their official debuts at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 4.
The network made the move in order to increase the audience of the shows, especially since both "Superstore" and "Telenovela" have been streaming on NBC.com ever since they debuted after "The Voice."
This does not bode well for the network, given that both episodes are also on YouTube, but have not obtained a huge viewership. "Telenovela" has only obtained approximately 238,000 views, while "Superstore" has only obtained a bit over 597,000 views. This is not a lot for shows that star some of the most popular Latinas in the U.S.
"Superstore" stars America Ferrera, who made a name for herself in the highly successful "Ugly Betty" and went on to win numerous accolades. Meanwhile, "Telenovela" stars Eva Longoria, who has made a name for herself on "Desperate Housewives" and for her political activity.
While ratings seem to be low, the shows do seem to be getting a lot of positive word of mouth through YouTube comments.
Most viewers have given it positive comments, and that is always good when generating buzz for a show.
While NBC works to raise awareness for these new series, the network is also making sure to finish "Truth Be Told" on Christmas, as it will air the last two episodes for the lowest-rated series of the fall season. The show should get a boost, but NBC's plan allows the network to place another show in its place.
"Telenovela" goes behind the scenes and shows the life of actress Ana Sofia, while "Superstore" tells the story of employees at a super-sized megastore who form a unique bond as they deal with their work in the store.
