New 'Fantastic Four' Reboot Movie Cast: 'House of Cards' Star Kate Mara Admits She's Not Familar With Fantastic Four Comics or Movies
House of Cards star Kate Mara is preparing to transform into Sue Storm for the next Fantastic Four film.
Mara will join Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller in the Josh Trank's movie franchise reboot. Many fans are wondering about the route the film will take with such bolding casting choices, which includes Jordan as the Human Torch, who in the comic books is white and Sue Storm's brother.
"Well, I don't know very much about it, which is weird but true," Mara said in an interview with IGN. "All I know is that it's going to be a very different take on the film, which people may not expect."
Mara is a bit of a change from Jessica Alba, who played Sue Storm in 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Both films, which Mara told E! News she's never seen, might be useful to the actress, who admits that she has never been a Fantastic Four fan.
"I'm not really familiar with the comic books," Mara revealed. "...I picked up a few when I got the part."
Still, the 31-year-old actress has faith that her new role will be a good one.
"I think we're making a very grounded version of a superhero film," Mara explained. "I trust Josh Trank's vision as I was a huge fan of Chronicle."
Mara is also in the dark about her likely upcoming workout routine, as playing a superhero is usually both mentally and physically demanding. She is "training anyway," however because once she got the part she realized she needed to "get my ass in shape." Pilates and Bar Method have been part of Mara's previous workout routines.
"I haven't really been told anything specifically to do," Mara said in an interview with E! News. "We start in a few weeks so maybe that will change, but for now just normal, like any other job that's relatively exciting to be a part of."
Mara also added that she is not sure if she will be rocking spandex like the stars of the previous Fantastic Four films.
"I'm not mad about it," she laughed.
Fantastic Four hits theaters June 19, 2015.
