Lamar Odom Health Update: Former LA Lakers Star Now Taking Unassisted Steps
Former Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom has some developments with regard to his health. Apparently, the former basketball star can now take unassisted steps. The feat happened for the first time last Thursday after he was hospitalized in Oct. 13 for a suspected drug overdose.
TMZ reported that Odom is finally able to move without a walker, according to a source. Doctors reportedly shared that Odom was able to walk three steps. Also, the 36-year-old now has a minimal range of hand motion since he can now reach his head and put his hood on.
It would seem like Odom's condition is getting better, especially since his brain function is improving, albeit slowly. He is now also able to recognize hospital staff.
"He gets better a little bit every day," a source told Us Weekly. "He took a few steps without the walker. It's very slow and he's supposed to go to the rehab any day now."
Odom's health condition was previously in critical condition after being found unresponsive at a brothel in Nevada, overdosing himself with a mix of herbal sexual stimulants, cocaine and alcohol, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Upon being rushed to a nearby hospital, the former NBA star was then transferred a few days later to an LA hospital in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center when his condition suggested that he can be airlifted, meaning that his vital signs were already stable.
Meanwhile, Odom's estranged wife, "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star Khloe Kardashian, previously told the "Today" show how tough it was when Odom was in critical condition.
"They told me that he had four hours," the reality star told Natalie Morales of the "Today" show as quoted by Us Weekly.
"It's a horrible call to get. Getting to the hospital and knowing he's in a coma and having to run these tests or make medical decisions -- it's terrifying," she added. After being with Odom in the hospital, Kardashian then decided to hold off on her divorce with him pending the health condition of his estranged husband.
Kardashian's show has been featuring her and her previous struggle with Odom even before Odom's sudden hospitalization.
"Everything Lamar is saying is true. I do love Lamar," Kardashian said on last Sunday's episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashian as quoted by Los Angeles Times.
"It definitely makes me sad because I still believe he is my soulmate. But right now I have to do what's best for me."
