‘Mr Robot’ Season 2 News: Rami Malek Expects Difficult Season 2 [Watch]
Star of the hit summer series "Mr. Robot" Rami Malek recently revealed Season 2 of the series is going to be a painful transition for both himself and his character Elliot Alderson.
According to Variety, the actor said there are going to be new arcs next season that will transcend the climax of last season and bring the digital war, as well Alderson's personal demons, into the forefront.
Season 1 had a seedy premise that hearkened back to many predecessors, including "Fight Club," "Breaking Bad," "Blade Runner" and even "Risky Business."
One particular scene in the first season definitely paid homage to "Fight Club" through the use of the Pixies song "Where is My Mind," which notably played at the end of that film.
But when Malek spoke with show creator Sam Esmail about Season 2, he got a warning he was not prepared to respond to. In a revealing request, Esmail told the actor, "You have to tell me now if there's anything that you're not okay with."
That statement alone was something that struck Malek, given all of the scenes he did in Season 1 that were a little more than intense. Malek said Esmail did not make that request of him in Season 1 for any of those scenes, likely indicating the character is about to go through a radical transformation onscreen, which some audiences might find disturbing.
Malek was in the middle of shooting a dramatic scene on a different project when he got the call from Esmail. He said the creator wanted to give him all of the details about Season 2 right then and there. But the specifics for Season 2 were so heavy, the actor admitted it was a lot to take in.
