Charlie Sheen Admits Legal Settlements Over HIV-Positive Status
Charlie Sheen recently admitted he's already been forced to settle civil proceedings with several people stemming from his recently confirmed HIV status.
According to Radar Online, including out-of-court agreements, the former "Two and a Half Men" star estimated he's had to come to legal terms with up to 10 different people because of his illness.
After years of keeping his secret hidden from the world, Sheen recently went public with news of his HIV status. During his announcement, he told the "Today" show's Matt Lauer that he simply grew tired of those in the know using the information to blackmail him.
Back then, Sheen described those he viewed as his tormentors as "unsavory and insipid types." He added he only came to realize he couldn't trust them after they had already manipulated their ways into his life.
Sheen added he only agreed to pay off his blackmailers because he was desperate to keep his privacy. He explained he did not go to the police because he would then have to file reports, which he believed would have also revealed his condition to the media.
Still, Sheen insisted he has no regrets about the way he handled things. He said, "I didn't want to be forced into revealing my condition based on somebody's else's greed or folly."
Among those taking legal action against Sheen is ex-fiancée Scottine Ross, an adult film star known as Brett Rossi, who charged he failed to disclose to her that he was HIV-positive.
Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the suit seeks $1 million and earnings from Sheen's now canceled "Anger Management" show. It also accuses Sheen of assault, battery and false imprisonment.
Ross and Sheen were in a relationship from November 2013 to October 2014, according to the suit.
"Charlie Sheen intends to vigorously defend the lawsuit filed by Scottine Ross," Sheen's attorney said in a statement. "We are confident that Mr. Sheen will prevail on his claims for affirmative relief against her."
