'Captain America: Civil War' Massive Spoilers, Rumors: Captain America May Die in New Movie
Is Captain America (Chris Evans) going to die in his new movie?
According to Comicbook.com, the new film "Captain America: Civil War" will showcase the superhero's funeral at the end. It seems that this will be the second funeral in the film, as the movie is slated to open with the death rites for Peggy Carter, the Captain's old flame.
The news comes from YouTube channel That Hashtag Show, which claims to have received info from trusted sources. According to the source, "During the film, Steve will make a deal with the government, stating that they are not to hunt down the people that allied with him in the Civil War. After Steve surrenders and is taken into custody he is killed."
There is an indication that the death is left ambiguous, which would not be a big surprise, considering how Marvel and Disney ensured that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) remain alive throughout "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
Some have suggested that someone else will take over the role of Captain America to ensure that his symbol remain alive and well for the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity Wars."
If Steve Rogers is killed off, his death will represent a huge step forward for the Marvel Universe. To this point, no major superhero has been allowed to die in a film, essentially keeping the stakes rather low from picture to picture. The sense of danger in Marvel movies in recent years is akin to a balloon slowly losing its air.
Killing off the Captain would be shocking to audiences, but it would also alert viewers that no one is safe in this new universe and that even fan favorite heroes are going to perish at some point.
Evans' contract with the studio is nearing its end, and it would make sense that Steve Rogers gets killed to open up the doors for other heroes to take center stage. It almost feels necessary given the plethora of new characters joining the fray, including Spider-Man (Tom Holland), the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), among others.
Imagine trying to balance every superhero out there in one two-hour film. Killing the Captain might be the studio's only move.
