LeBron James 'Goes to Work' to Promote the Samsung Gear VR
LeBron James and Samsung have teamed up to show off the new virtual reality device the Samsung Gear VR. In a virtual reality experience video available for the Samsung Gear VR, viewers get to see James training in a real-life view for about 12 minutes.
James used the virtual reality device to help film the experience called "Striving for Greatness," Tech Crunch reports. In the experience, James is shown preparing for his 13th NBA season.
The virtual reality experience will show James practicing, lifting weights and even driving around town in a golf cart. While users will not be able to interact with the surroundings in the virtual reality experience, they will be able to see all of the angles and views that were captured when making the experience.
The virtual reality experience is a partnership between Samsung, Oculus and James' production company Uninterrupted. Short clips of the footage has been previously released by Uninterrupted, but this is the first time that fans will be able to actually experience LeBron James in virtual reality.
The Samsung Gear VR is a $99 headset that attaches to Samsung Galaxy smartphones in order to show virtual reality experiences to users.
James recorded a commercial for Samsung that shows him receiving a very early wake up call from his trainer. James says it is "time to go to work."
Viewers see everything from James' eyes as he boards the subway, walks through a construction site and an office building. Everyone that James passes and sees is lip-syncing the 1990 song "Welcome to the Terrordome" by Public Enemy.
At the end of the commercial, viewers are encouraged to "watch LeBron go to work" on the Samsung Gear VR, prompting them to watch the full 12 minute experience on the virtual reality device.
The LeBron James virtual reality experience is available for free from either the Oculus Store or the Samsung Milk VR app.
This is the opportunity for anyone who ever wanted to see what it felt like to be LeBron James to experience it in virtual reality.
Now that James is becoming a technological brand himself, there could be more experiences just like this one in the future.
