With Oscar season ending, the January movie season starts and there will be many films released. However, it will be interesting to see how many of these films end up being box office and critical hits. The following are the five films to look forward to in January.

1. "The Revenant"- Opening wide on Jan. 8, 2016, this epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio has obtained critical acclaim and is sure to be an Oscar contender. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's western is a sprawling and harsh look at a man who struggles through the worst conditions to survive in order to get revenge for the death of his son. While far from an easy watch, the movie in the end is a rewarding masterpiece that is sure to be recognized as one of the great classics in a few years.

2. "13 Hours: the Secret Story of Benghazi" - Michael Bay trades the fantasy world of Transformers for a real life story in what may be one of the most talked-about films of January. The new film, opening Jan. 15, 2016, chronicles the events that led an American ambassador to be killed during an attack at a U.S. compound in Libya. The film is likely to be a hit especially after the email scandals that have surrounded Hilary Clinton's Presidential campaign and it will likely ignite conversation throughout the electoral season.

3. "Mojave" - Oscar Isaac reteams with A24 for the third time for his latest Tribeca Film Festival selection. The new film tells the story of a suicidal artist who goes into the desert, where he finds his doppelgänger, a homicidal drifter. The movie, opening Jan. 22, 2016, is directed by William Monahan, who won an Oscar for his work on "The Departed" and also stars Garrett Hedlund and Walton Goggins. Isaac has had one of the best years after his work on "Ex Machina" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and this film will likely bring his star power up one more notch.

4. "Jane Got a Gun" - On Jan. 29, 2016, the troubled Natalie Portman-starrer will finally debut on the silver screen. After a number of production setbacks with actors and directors, The Weinstein Company will release the film. The new movie tells the story of a woman who asks her ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband. With the film originally scheduled for Oscar season, it will be interesting to see how it turned out and if the cast on board can elevate the material.

5. "Kung Fu Panda 3" - One of the most lucrative animated franchises returns for the third time. However, this time Fox has opted for an early year release. The DreamWorks franchise has been critically acclaimed but this early release, Jan. 29, 2016, does not seem as promising. However, with very limited offerings for children and families in this time of the year, Fox may get the first big hit of the early year. The new film tells the story of Po as he continues his adventures and must confront a new threat that brings him closer to his home.
