Kansas City Shooting at Jewish Community Center: At Least One Dead; Suspect In Custody
At least one person has died and another is in critical condition after shootings were reported at two Jewish Community Centers in Overland Park, Kan., according to several reports.
The suspect, who was said to be yelling "Heil Hitler," has been taken into custody, according to KSHB Kansas City.
It remains unclear whether or not there are more deaths but The Jewish Daily Forward says that "some reports said two people were killed but the Kansas City Star newspaper reporter just one confirmed fatality."
The Overland Park area is located in the southern Kansas City area and Forward.com reports that the shootings took place at both a Jewish Community Center as well as a home for the elderly, but these reports have yet to be confirmed.
Kansas City has been at the center of issues surrounding shootings for some time, ever since a string of shootings have taken place in the last month or so. There have been 12 shootings reported since the second week of March and they are believed to be connected, but evidence has not been able to prove this. At any rate, the issue has become serious enough that law enforcement have offered a $10,000 reward to anyone who is able to provide information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the shootings.
