Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, Specs: Upcoming Flagship Won't Have Major Design Changes?
Samsung Galaxy S7 might not have huge changes when it comes to its design, based on the alleged leaked front panels of the phone. The upcoming flagship device is rumored for a February 2016 release date.
According to Phone Arena, images of the front panel were reportedly leaked, only showing minor changes to the phone's design. This further supports previous reports that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will only be getting minimal design modifications.
The report notes that the leaked panel shows a longer home button, which also corroborates with rumors that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus will be equipped with a rectangular home button.
Moreover, the sensors, volume rockers and power button of the Samsung Galaxy S7 are reportedly placed on the right side of the device. Check out the photos of the leaked panels posted on the linked Phone Arena report above.
As for the release date, tech experts are expecting that the 2016 flagship smartphone will have a February unveiling, based on Samsung's usual release history for its Android mobile phones. Particularly, Galaxy S7 might be launched during Samsung Unpacked 2016 event, which is set for Feb. 21.
A tweet from prolific tipster @Ricciolo1 noted that Samsung Unpacked 2016 will take place in Barcelona, Spain. Moreover, Samsung Unpacked typically happens a day prior to the start of another major event known as Mobile World Conference. This year, MWC will be held from Feb. 22 to Feb. 25.
When it comes to the specs, a previous Latin Post report notes that the smartphone will have two variants, based on the chipset used. Accordingly, the U.S. model of the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 while the East Asia version will have Exynos 8890 SoC.
The screen will be 5.2 inches in size and will have a QHD display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. If rumors are to be believed, tech fans can choose from two options: a unit with 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage paired with 4 GB of RAM.
For the shooter specs, the primary camera will have a 20-megapixel lens sensor located on the rear part of the device.
Samsung Galaxy S7 will allegedly feature a new camera technology called BRITECELL, which was initially unveiled during the Samsung Electronics Investors Forum held late last year. According to a separate report from Latin Post, citing Digital Trends, the new camera technology which features smaller module improves light sensitivity when shooting in low-light conditions. Through this, photographers will see less distortion and fuzziness in the images.
