WWE Raw Spoilers, Preview for Jan 4, 2016: Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus for WWE Title With McMahon as Referee
Many wrestling fans either woke up early or stayed awake to watch New Japan Pro Wrestling's "Wrestling Kingdom 10" on Monday morning, but the action continues on "WWE Monday Night Raw" as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be defended.
As announced last week on "Raw," WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will defend his title against Sheamus, while Mr. McMahon serves as the special guest referee. Usually when McMahon is involved in a match, in any capacity, it becomes a no-disqualification match, which would likely be announced tonight. Fans may also expect interference from the League of Nations, which may also spur the appearance of John Cena.
Last week, Cena fought in a non-title Mach against United States Champion Alberto Del Rio. Cena spoke about how his match should be for the United States Championship, but that didn't come to fruition. Cena may make it his mission to have Del Rio put the United States Championship on the line, but it will most likely occur at the "Royal Rumble."
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day are still rightfully bitter for not winning the Slammy Award for Best Tag Team. While it looked like The Lucha Dragons were still going to be the No. 1 contenders for the tag titles, Sin Cara suffered a legitimate shoulder injury, therefore Kalisto may be flying solo. Unless he finds a replacement, Kalisto may be out of the tag team scene. Last week's "SmackDown," however, showed who could replace The Lucha Dragons as the No. 1 contenders: The Dudley Boyz. The Dudleys teamed with Kalisto to successfully defeat New Day. Perhaps the Dudleys can build momentum for the "Royal Rumble," unless The Usos reappear in the spotlight again.
WWE Divas Champion Charlotte is expected to return to "Raw" after an absence from the broadcast in order to attend the WWE's live event in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Her storyline with Becky Lynch will resume after the latter lost against Sasha Banks, who is undefeated in one-on-one competition on "Raw." The WWE could be building on a triple threat feud among the three NXT alums (Banks, Charlotte and Lynch), or will likes squeeze Lynch away from the big pay-per-view match to further build her underdog persona.
"Raw" should also feature the next steps for Tyler Breeze, who amicably separated from Summer Rae. What will become of Summer? Perhaps an in-ring return? Meanwhile, Breeze needs a viable feud to win after the back and forth against Dolph Ziggler last month.
Viewers should also expect an update on Kevin Owens after he attacked Neville and Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose last Monday. Ambrose did get a win with Reigns against Owens and Sheamus on the last "SmackDown."
"WWE Monday Night Raw" airs weekly on the USA Network.
