Andre Iguodala Fights Ex-Girlfriend Over Child Support
Golden State Warriors veteran swingman Andre Iguodala appears in court on Monday to answer a petition filed by an ex-girlfriend seeking to have child support payments increased by more than 300 percent.
According to TMZ, Clayanna Warthen is fighting to have monthly payments raised from $18,000 to $58,000, adding that their 6-year-old daughter is a genius with a 151 IQ, and current payments don't fully cover her educational costs.
Warthen, who reportedly had a six-year relationship with the 31-year-old Iguodala, also claims he won't allow their daughter to meet any of her other half-siblings. She says the increase she is seeking is in keeping with the court's child support stipulations, since her ex nets an NBA salary of roughly $11 million a year.
Led by league MVP Stephen Curry, All-Star forward Klay Thompson and Iguodala, the Warriors are off to one of the league's best starts in history, as they seek to eclipse the Chicago Bulls' all-time record single season win total of 72 games.
Even with coach Steve Kerr recuperating from offseason back surgery, sidelining him all season, the Warriors are now a league-best 31-2.
With Kerr due back any game now, there seems little chance their run is about to end anytime soon, though Curry did reinjure his shin in the team's last game and called it a night before halftime.
"It's obviously a possibility," interim coach Luke Walton said of chances Kerr may return to the bench in the team's next few games. "He hasn't said he's going to. To be honest, I don't think he knows yet. I think that's part of why he's on this road trip, to see how his body handles the travel."
As for Curry, he's expected to be reevaluated by team officials before he decides on a course of action. He has now sat out two of the team's last three games.
