Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial Adjourned For Two Weeks
The ongoing Oscar Pistorius murder trial is being put on hold for two more weeks at the request of the prosecution.
Pistorius, a former Olympic track star who was both famous and well-liked in his native country of South Africa, is now fighting for his future after admitting that he pulled the trigger in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day in 2013.
The prosecutors have been on the offensive against Pistorius, who has been so emotional during the trial that the judge has, at times, had to go as far as sending everyone home for the day.
"I think that this prosecutor had a plan to wear him down through relentless and protracted argumentative cross-examination to get him confused and get him to contradict himself," Tom Mesereau, an attorney who has represented high-profile clients, said to NBC News. "He wanted to burn his position into the judge's conscious and subconsciousness mind."
Pistorius opened up about the events that unfolded at his home the night that he killed Steenkamp. While he has admitted to killing her, he says he did not do so on purpose.
"I mean the situation, and the situation as a whole, it wasn't meant to be," he said. "I didn't think about pulling the trigger. As soon as I heard the noise, before I could think, I pulled the trigger."
If convicted, Pistorius is facing at least a quarter century behind bars. South Africa does not have a jury system so Pistorius's fate remains in the judge's hands.
What do you think will be the end result of this trial? Will Pistorius be going behind bars soon or will the judge find him innocent? In the comments section located down below, feel free to let us know what you expect to happen.
