NFL Coaching & Front Office Changes: Check the Latest Updates Here
The NFL's Black Monday just passed with most bad teams cleaning house, from their coaching staff up to their front office. Several coaches and general managers were already relieved of their duties. Check the latest updates and rumored firings here.
Miami Dolphins
Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was fired last Oct. 5, 2015 and was replaced by Dan Campbell as the interim coach. According to ESPN, former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is the leading candidate to get the head coaching job while seven other assistant head coaches and coordinators are scheduled for interviews.
The team also parted ways with general manager Dennis Hickey last Jan. 2 and named Chris Grier as his replacement, per the team's official website. Grier is the Dolphins longtime college scouting director and has been part of the organization for 16 years.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans fired general manager Ruston Webster on Monday. The likely candidates to replace him are Team Director of College Scouting Blake Beddingfield and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Director of Player Personnel Jon Robinson.
As for the full-time head coach, interim coach Mike Mularkey will be evaluated while Chip Kelly is the most obvious choice as he coached starting quarterback Marcus Mariota back in Oregon, per The Tennessean.
Philadelphia Eagles
Chip Kelly was fired at the start of Week 17, but he is a candidate for almost all the head coaching vacancies in the NFL. The Eagles have offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur as interim coach, but has about 12 candidates for the head coaching job, as reported by Philly.com.
Cleveland Browns
After a three-win season, the Browns fired both general manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine on Sunday while owner Jimmy Haslam told ESPN that the team will be looking to hire a head coach first. The coach will then be involved in the selection of a new general manager.
Former Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone and Chicago Bears offensive coach Adam Gase are both candidates for the Browns head coaching vacancy.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers fired head coach Jim Tomsula after his first season while general manager Trent Baalke is staying put. According to NFL.com, Chip Kelly and Mike Shanahan are very interested in joining the 49ers and Baalke has stated that head coach candidates will be coming outside the organization.
New York Giants
Tom Coughlin stepped down as the Giants head coach after 12 seasons and two Super Bowl rings. In a report by CBS Sports, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is a leading candidate as well as Patriots' offensive and quarterback coach Josh McDaniels.
The Rest of the NFL
The Indianapolis Colts extended head coach Chuck Pagano's contract for four more years while New Orleans Saints may bid adieu to head coach Sean Payton. The San Diego Chargers chose to retain head coach Mike McCoy but fired six of his assistant coaches.
