Many fans have been waiting for a remake of "Final Fantasy VII" ever since Square Enix teased the possibility back in 2006. "Final Fantasy VII Remake" was officially announced during the 21st Electronic Entertainment Expo last June 15, 2015, but producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the game will not be available until 2017.

"I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake.' I'd like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement," Kitase told Japanese magazine Famitsu as quoted by Siliconera.

According to GameRant, Kitase's statement means that the remake will not be launched this year, which will cost more anticipation for fans. Game Director Tetsuya Nomura is currently busy with the development of "Kingdom Hearts 3" while "Final Fantasy XV" is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016.

It does not make any sense for Square Enix to have the remake overshadow its own product in "Final Fantasy XV." The new version of the 1997 RPG will be released episodically as part of a multi-part series as announced in early December.

"We would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy VII by going beyond the scale and depth of the world, narrative and gameplay from the original to deliver something that feels familiar yet new. As I said before, we like delivering surprises," Kitase explained via Square Enix's blog.

The remake will be using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4 for the creation and development of the game, and not the company's Luminous Studio Engine that is used for "Final Fantasy XV." CyberConnect2, known for the "Naruto" games and the ".hack" series, was also announced as part of the remake's development team.

According to GameSpot, "Final Fantasy VII Remake" will also feature full voice acting including dating events.

"Basically, it will be fully voiced. We still haven't decided the voices of the characters that weren't in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," game director Nomura said.

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" has no official release date and will be available on PlayStation 4. There are no confirmations if it will be coming to Xbox One and PC, but Kitase mentioned that the game will be released on "modern platforms."

The game will be retelling the story of the original game that was released back in 1997 and follows the main character Cloud Strife against the villain Sephiroth.
