Powerball Numbers, Results Jan 6, 2016: Watch Live Stream of Drawing for $450M Jackpot
Wednesday’s winning Powerball numbers were 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 and 17. There were 7,124,983 regular winners, and $65,947,617 in non-jackpot money was won.
As no one won the grand prize, the estimated jackpot is now at $675 Million with a $413.1 cash value.
There are nine ways to win at Powerball. There is a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of getting the grand prize, and a 1 in 11,688,053.52 of winning $1,000,000. On the less risky side, a Powerball player has a 1 in 38 chance of simply doubling her money on a $2 ticket.
Although there is obviously a lot of celebrating that comes along with winning the lottery, there are a few practical things every winner should try to do.
As ABC News reports, the first thing a Powerball player needs to do is sign the back of the ticket. According to Tracey Cohen, the interim executive director at the D.C. Lottery, a signed ticket, accompanied by two forms of matching ID, is needed before any payout can be made.
Aside from signing the ticket, a Powerball winner should make every effort to remain anonymous.
Alexa von Tobel, a money expert and the founder of the financial planning website LearnVest.com, explains that going public with a big win often creates problems for the lottery winner.
“We've seen everything from robberies to even murders of people who have won lotteries," von Tobel said.
A Powerball winner should also assemble a money management team right away and try hard not to spend any cash for a while. To be safe, a winner should try to wait six months or even a year before making any purchases.
"We often find that a lot of people end up blowing through millions," von Tobel added.
