Green Bay Packers vs Washington Redskins: NFL Playoffs TV Schedule, Predictions, Stream & Preview
The Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins will face off in a rather odd wild card round game. Not many fans thought the Redskins would make the playoffs this year. Then again, not many people thought the Packers would fall down to a No. 5 seed in the conference.
Green Bay Packers (5)
The Packers didn't exactly end the season on a great note losing back-to-back games. Wide receivers aren't getting open, the running game isn't what many expected, and now the Packers have lost home field advantage. As bad as that may seem, let's keep in mind the Packers are the last wild card team to win the Super Bowl.
Aaron Rodgers got sacked 18 more times this year than last season, but that's hardly the fault of the offensive line. The front five can only block for so long. Again, the bigger issue for the Packers that is leading to sacks is the inability of the receivers and tight ends to get open. We call those coverage sacks.
Richard Rodgers will be the key player in this one for the Packers. If he can't make quick catches in the slot for his quarterback, the Packers are going to have a difficult time moving the chains. Defensively, the Packers do have their hands full. The Redskins have a great repertoire of receivers to throw to so defensive coordinator Dom Caper is in for a challenge.
If the Packers win this game, they will play either the Arizona Cardinals or Seattle Seahawks in the next round.
Washington Redskins (4)
The red hot Redskins will be hosting this wild card game. Jay Gruden's squad has won their last four consecutive games, and Kirk Cousins is proving a lot of people wrong. With Robert Griffin III having a $16 million player option for next season, it looks like this is Cousins' team for the foreseeable future.
However, some fans just aren't sold. The Redskins did win the NFC East, but they weren't very impressive this season against top competition. They were 0-3 against teams with a winning record which included the New England Patriots, New York Jets and Carolina Panthers. Even more alarming, they lost all three of those games by two touchdowns or more.
If the Redskins are going to win this game it's going to be because of their huge advantage in the receiving game. DeSean Jackson provides one of the best deep threats in the NFL, Pierre Garcon is always a reliable target, and Jordan Reed is having a monster season.
Schedule
The Packers ad Redskins play one another on Sunday at 4:40 p.m. ET on FOX. The game will be played at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. You can watch a live game stream here.
Prediction
Everyone is jumping on the Redskins bandwagon, and that's understandable considering how the season ended for both teams. Sorry, I'm jumping on it just yet. The Redskins haven't shown me they can beat a good team, and I'm, still not sold on Cousins as a playoff caliber starter. Rodgers will have to make some plays with his feet, and we all know he is fully capable of doing just that. I think the Packers will win a close one on Saturday.
Packers win, 27-24
