2014 NBA Standings, Playoff Picture And Bracket Predictions: Pacers And Spurs Atop Eastern & Western Conferences - Wizards, Grizzlies, And Portland Trailblazers Look To Upset
This year's NBA playoffs is finally here! The playoffs were set after the Memphis Grizzlies won over the Phoenix Suns. The question most fans are asking now is what the road to the 2014 Finals will look like. Several teams, including Washington, Toronto, Memphis and Dallas, solidified their respective spots in both the Western and Eastern Conferences.
Let's review the standings. The Indiana Pacers lead the Eastern Conference with 56 wins and 26 losses, followed by the Miami Heat at 54 wins and 28 losses. Third is the Toronto Raptors with 48 wins and 34 losses. Next on the list in order are the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Bobcats and Atlanta Hawks coming in last. The Western Conference is led by the San Antonio Spurs at 62 wins and 20 losses, followed by Oklahoma City Thunder at 58 wins and 23 losses. Third are the Los Angeles Clippers with 57 wins and 25 losses. Next in line in the west are the Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers, Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, and Dallas Mavericks are last.
Now for first round match-up predictions in the East. The Pacers went 2-2 during the season against the Atlanta Hawks but once they lock down that perimeter, the Pacers' better players should pull it out in 4 or 5 games. The Heat should rout the Bobcats, while the two other match-ups are more contentious. The Nets have struggled all season and the more cohesive, young, and hungry Raptors are favorites for this series, which might go to 6 or 7 games. Bulls vs. Wizards is another possible seven-game series and this one could go either way, but the Bulls' experience gives them the advantage.
In the western conference, the Mavericks simply don't have enough defense to stop the train that is the Spurs. The Thunder should be afraid of the Grizzlies, who can take them to 6 or 7 games and even win, but if they defend well and give Kevin Durant the ball when down, things should turn out alright. Despite going 2-2 against them during the season, the Clippers are more consistent and therefore a favorite against Stephen Curry's three point shooting Warriors and should be able to finish them in 6 games or less. Likewise, Rockets have a better team than Portland and should win in 6 games or less. View the playoff bracket here.
