‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Cast & Updates: Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo Spill on Villain Role in Third Installment
Marvel is known for keeping much of their major moves highly under wraps. From casting and screenwriting to plot lines and movie deaths, the entire team is expected to keep all the film news to themselves for as long as humanly possible. "Thor: Ragnarok" is no different, but it seems as if word is leaking on Cate Blanchett's casting on the next villain role.
According to a report from ET Online, Mark Ruffalo sounded off on his potential new co-star during the BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party last Saturday, Jan. 9. When asked by the ET Online team about the new A-list star joining the "Thor" roster, Ruffalo responded in a way that seemed to confirm Blanchett's appearance in the third installment.
"I'm so thrilled," Ruffalo said in the interview. "I saw her at the Governors' banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, 'Please, please, please make this work!'"
He added, "She's just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting."
It's unclear whether the actor playing the Hulk was just assuming from the recent reports swirling around of Blanchett's new role or if he is actually confirming the long-time buzz. There have been no denials from either camp though.
In a recent interview at the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show, Blanchett teased the Marvel fans by playing coy about the prospective villain role.
"Yes," she answered, when asked point blank by Kimmel if she will be in the new installment. Then she added, "Chris Hemsworth is busy, so I've been working out."
The Australian actress continued to kid around saying, "No, I'm not dodging the question! They're just substituting one Australian for another. Gender equality! Why can't you have a female Thor?"
There's nothing to do but wait for confirmation on the casting choices for the big-budget movie coming up, but Marvel president Kevin Feige's latest interview with Empire magazine (via Comic Book Movie) dropped more details about the third film in the series
"It's going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as 'Winter Soldier' was from the first 'Captain America'," Feige explained. "We want to take it to new places, we've got new characters that will show how big we're swinging on this. And we have a Hulk."
He added, "The film takes place within the cosmos primarily which is to say, frankly, very little Earth."
